Surviving 66 days alone in the wilds of northern Saskatchewan, I discovered the importance of resilience, passion, and our need to connect with the land.

At the age of 52, Alan became the oldest winner of ALONE, the History Channel's reality survival television show. Alan overcame significant physical and mental hardships to outlast nine other competitors in the wilderness of northern Saskatchewan. Growing up in the west Kootenays, Alan was introduced to the outdoors at a young age. Under the guidance of his father, Alan developed a passion for fishing, archery, and bowhunting. Alan graduated from UBC and has been a teacher for 28 years. In 2016, Alan developed and implemented an outdoor education course at the local high school. He shared his passion for the outdoors with his students; it was his Outdoor Education class who initially encouraged him to apply for the survival television show. Winning ALONE was Alan’s ultimate adventure. He pushed the limits of his physical and mental capabilities; at the same time, he used his skills as a bowhunter, fisherman, forager, and bushcrafter to outlast his competitors. Currently, Alan is a public speaker, teacher, and he creates content on his youtube channel, Tenta Outdoors.
